Ellie Rose

I don't exactly recall how or when EM and I arrived at the name Ellie Rose, other than Rose was the name of my mom's mom - a wonderfully strong Cajun woman who sadly never got to meet the woman I married and vice-versa. I do know we agreed on the name at least a couple of years before EM was pregnant. Nor do I recall how I arrived at the name for this blog. I know "Ellie's World" was taken, but I can't remember if I tried other variations or not. In any event, we received an email from Uncle Bill the other day and he pointed out a blog that I know with certainty never crossed my radar before the creation of the blog you are currently reading. The blog is "The World According to Ellie Rose" and I'm a bit saddened to see it, but being a dog owner I do prefer it to a blog about cats or some ego-maniac.

The unofficial start...

...of summer has typically been celebrated on Memorial Day, and it was that way for us today. It was made all the more "summery" by Ellie getting her first pool time in at Nanny and Grandpa's house. She frolicked in the pool, with many toys, for a good amount of time. We have the same pool she used today so I'm sure there will be some more pool time at our house real soon.

Play date

Recently, we've been thinking about how to socialize Ellie. She's been pretty much all ours for the past 11 months and, like it or not, we know we need to start sharing her with the rest of the world. So today Ellie and EM took a local facility for an age appropriate trial run while I tried to recover from working the night before. The class was small (I think that's good), but the instructor was uninspired (I know that's not good). The price seems to be right (at least for the introductory period), but we're not quite sure the schedule will mesh with the odd hours we keep. Consequently, we rate this place as a big, fat maybe. We'll try another soon and see how that goes. Please feel free to chime in with any alternate suggestions.

Get up, stand up

The person I like to refer to as RAA, also known as the optimist mom, asked in the prior post is Ellie cruising or walking? To which EM responded cruising (and lots of it I might add). The timing of her question couldn't be more apropos as starting yesterday, but becoming vastly more noticeable today, Ellie has been standing and letting go of whatever it is she pulled up from. She just stands there and takes it all in; I'd love to know what she's thinking. I do know this: can walking be far off?!

New trick

In response to EM asking how big she is, Ellie has gotten real good at raising her arms up in the air as if to say "soooo big!" She really is getting big.

Ellie says...

...Happy Mother's Day!!! A sentiment I wholeheartedly echo... love ya, EM!

On a related note, EM and I were discussing the other day which was her FIRST mother's day... the one in 2007 or this one. I didn't sense a real strong opinion from her... she just loves being Ellie's mom; but, I feel strongly we celebrated her first one last year even though I know we both agree this one is the better of the two. Of course, this question is moot as it relates to father's day.

Where's the doggie?

Our two dogs, Q in particular, like to sleep/hide under our bed from time to time and Ellie has recently discovered this. So for the last week or two, on at least a daily basis, she gets down on the floor beside the bed to check on the doggies. It's really cute:

Shine on

Ellie got her first shiner the other day. You know, a black eye. It's the very slightest of shiners, but it is a shiner nonetheless. She was standing alongside her favorite bench, twisting and turning, when all of a sudden her face met the edge of the bench with a solid "thwack!" She didn't cry as much as I thought she would, and she was alongside the bench again before too long. I don't dare post a picture though - gotta keep the evidence out of the hands of CPS.

Blah

It's hard to get too motivated to post something when you feel like crap and, sadly, I still do feel like crap. Fortunately, Ellie is still doing wonderfully well and has yet to show any indication that I have infected her (cross your collective fingers).

Her little legs get stronger with each day and I know she'll be walking before too long (before her b-day?). She's also "talking" more. Her new favorite "word" is "digga-digga-digga." Doggie? I don't know. But it's really cute to hear. Also, she has been fascinated with her books as of late. I especially enjoy when I catch a glimpse of her, in the rear view mirror, intently "reading" one of her many cardboard books. The studious fascination on her face is priceless.
