Conversation with Papa

Last night after the "cake party" Ellie took a bath at Nanny and Pa's. Pa came in to see how Ellie was liking her bath. I can't remember how the conversation started but it went something like this:

Me: Pa, I hope you had a good birthday

Pa: I did, I got to see the people I love

Ellie: Nanny, Mommy, Daddy

Nanny: And who else?

Ellie: Ellie Rose

Happy Birthday Papa!

Yesterday was Papa's birthday. We celebrated by joining Nanny and Pa for dinner and a "cake party". Ellie helped make the cake. She loved putting the decorations on. She has been practicing singing Happy Birthday to Papa for weeks now. She even serenaded him at dinner. I need to get this on video to share with all of you. Nanny's birthday is in a week so we are working on making the transition over to signing for her. Ellie loved all the hype around Pa's birthday so much that I overheard her in the car with ED this am (I was on the cell) talking about "Papa's cake party".

Papa we love you!
Happy Birthday!

We all love ice cream

Last week ED, Ellie, and myself went out shopping. We pulled into a shopping center to get a bite to eat for dinner. We parked directly in front of a Carvel. As soon as we got into the parking space she yelled "Cream Shop". ED and I were stunned. Ellie has never been to a Carvel. She has never been to that shopping center. Heck, I am not sure that we have ever taken her out for ice cream. Needless to say, we had to get dessert.

Sunday at the mall

In the dressing room at JC Penney-

Ellie tapping the stool in the dressing room: "Mommy go potty? Mommy go pee pee on the potty?"

Me: "No Ellie this isn't the bathroom. Mommy is going to try on a few clothes."

Ellie: "Mommy go pee pee on the potty."

I take off my shirt to try on blouse.

Ellie gazing at my chest: "Some milk Mommy. Some milk please."

Me: "Ellie you drink milk from a cup now like a big girl."

Ellie hasn't breastfed since November. It is amazing to me how she remembers things.

"I'll have the tub of butter, please."

Ellie's appetite has been a bit puny lately. That may be due in large part to the gallons of milk she drinks each day. Anyhow, as EM went through the different lunch options yesterday, Ellie indicated she'd like butter on bread - a butter sandwich, if you will. Upon being served her requested lunch, Ellie promptly opened up the sandwich, scraped the butter off with her spoon and began eating the butter. Just the butter. Strange.

Bath time troubles

Up until about two weeks ago Ellie loved bath time. Occasionally she would get a little upset when I would rinse her hair, but not worth even worrying about. Well all of a sudden the little one decided she didn't like bath time anymore. It became a fight to say the least. For hours before bath time she would say "no bath mama". I would put her in the tub and fight to get her to sit down. She would cry. I couldn't figure it out. We had a thought of diaper rash problems, but nothing was standing out. She hated the bath all of a sudden until sunday night.
Sunday Ellie and I went to Target. While in the store she noticed bath tub crayons. We bought them. So far they have worked.
Now the problem is getting out of the tub. She now cries over having to put the crayons away.
I would much rather have it this way.

Update: Last night Ellie asked me to take a bath. We may be making progress.

Warm weather

As you may remember, earlier in the week it snowed.

Saturday am we built our last snowman of the season (we hope!)

Saturday afternoon we were in shorts.

It was sunny and close to 80 Saturday, Sunday, and today.

Ellie loved playing outside.

Details

Yesterday I posted pictures of Ellie playing in the snow. What I failed to tell you or show you was the details of the event.

It is March. This is the first big (5 inches-if you call that big) snow in years. So in buying Ellie's winter clothes I didn't even think twice about getting her a snow suit or boots. So when this snow came along I had to improvise.

The snow suit is acutally size 6 months, a rather big 6 months at that. If you look at this picture closely you can see that the arms and legs are a bit short. So to make up for this Ellie has two pairs of pants, two shirts, and a sweater underneath.

Instead of boots she is wearing sneakers. To make up for this she has two pairs of socks on. Since the socks are thick I could not velcro the top strap of her sneakers. So the top of her shoes became a catch all for snow. I had to clean that out every few minutes.

Her gloves are thin. So again two pairs. Well they are mittens. Have you ever tried to get a two year old to but their thumbs into the mitten thumb hole? Have you ever tried to do this with two pairs of gloves? Well needless to say Ellie couldn't really use her hands.

So as you can imagine Ellie reminded me of the kid in the Christmas story. The only good thing is that she is still in diapers.

Ellie wasn't phased by it at all. She was having too much fun the snow. So much so she has been asking for more.

Fun in the snow

After a long weekend of lots of rain we finally got to spend some time outside. Ellie had been asking all weekend (about 1million times) to have Papa take her to the playground. Hopefully we statisfied her need for some fresh air this morning.

Ellie had a great time in the snow. About a half hour after coming in she was asking to go out again. I promised her we would after nap times. Looks like I better get to work on drying the clothes and shoes from this morning.
