Hungry?

As you parents know, babies come up with all sorts of ways to communicate - some are more obvious than others. Well, Ellie is no different. Here's one of the ways she tells me she's hungry:

This girl is an absolute joy, and she cracks me up in so many ways! I love you Ellie Rose!

The Blob

My best friend, Kenny (father of two), commented to me once about how infants are blobs for the better part of their early existence (unfortunately, I can't remember what time frame he put on it). Anyhow, I constantly find myself thinking about that observation and the truth behind it. It's not that it's a bad thing or a criticism or a regret; it is what it is, and it is the truth. So for the better part of the last five-plus weeks we've been living with and caring for a blob. With that said, there's no more adorable, lovable and captivating blob on this earth, in my humble opinion, than Ellie and I will eternally be grateful for her blobbiness and the time I've spent being with the blob. I am also grateful, however, that Ellie is slowly but surely transitioning out of that phase - there's more waking hours, there's more interaction, there's more... everything!

Boring!

Nothing new to report here. We're mostly staying at home and staring and Ellie - mind you, this is no complaint! Rather, staring at her and being mystified by the spell she has cast is really such a pleasure that words don't, and can't, do it justice. However, that all changes in about a week when I return to work. Slowly but surely we will be altering our "boring" routine; and, I can only hope it is for the better even though it's really hard to imagine how it could be any better than it already is.

Still playing catch up...

As noted earlier, our computer was down for a while and, consequently, we've been playing catch up with all things computer related which includes uploading photos and updating this blog. The last bit of that updating has to do with Ellie's baptism which took place July 7.

Ellie was very well-behaved throughout, and she looked beautiful (as usual) in her christening gown that her grammy made for her. In attendance that day, besides Ellie, ED and EM, were grandpa, nanny, grammy, Aunt Laurie, Uncle Bill (godfather), Aunt Dani, AK (godmother) and Jay. After the ceremony we all went to the home of grandpa and nanny for dinner.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not note that today Ellie is four weeks old. It's been a tremendous four weeks just having Ellie in our lives. It's been made more special by the outpouring of support and good will sent our way. EM and I are doing our best to let everyone know we appreciate their generosity and well wishes, and we're not yet done doing so. However, I thought as I now reflect on this joyous event and all that's come with it I should briefly say just how truly thankful and fortunate we are for everyone who has shared this blessing with us. THANKS!

I'm learning so much...

As noted at the outset of this blog, I'm a new parent. As such, I'm learning a great many things I did not know prior to Ellie's arrival. For example:

1. I did not know it was common for a full term (or nearly full term) newborn to lose weight. The key, as it turns out, is that by their second week of life they return to their birth weight. We found out at our first "well baby" visit - at two weeks, five days - that Ellie actually exceeded her birth weight.
2. I did not know how fast I could move. However, at 3am, when EM woke me up and said something about an exploding diaper, I'm pretty sure I set a new land-speed record.
3. I did not know that it is rather common for newborns to hiccup quite frequently. Poor little Ellie - she gets the hiccups a couple of times a day. It's kind of funny (sorry about the orientation of this video) yet it is also kind of sad since I'm sure we can all relate to how frustrating the hiccups can be.

We're baaack!

Apparently, I have two addictions: Ellie and my computer - boy, did I not like being without my computer. Fortunately, while the computer was down, I still had my baby girl to focus on.

Technical difficulties

In trying to upload some photos, our computer crashed. It's in the shop and I hope to have it back early next week. As such, there will be no updates until that time. Sorry gang, but thanks for your continued interest in our baby girl - she's doing just fine!

It's been two weeks...

My dearest Ellie,

You are two weeks old today, and what an incredible two weeks it's been! Everyone was right, of course; mommy and I can't remember life before you and we can't dream of living without you. You are beautiful and we love every minute we spend with you.

With great pride,
Daddy
